The Persian or Persian Longhair is a popular pedigreed cat in North America. The first Persian ancestors were brought to Italy from Persia around 1620.

In 1994, the Ragamuffin was separated from the Ragdoll. Breeders crossed Ragdolls with Persians, Himalayans, and other domestic long-haired cats to add more colours and patterns.
